This wasn’t the vacation we had planned for months ago, BUT it’s the vacation we lived and we couldn’t complain.
Our trip to the North Cascades National Park was hindered only by the smoke and air quality. We arrived while the wildfires were raging in the west, so we kept most of our adventures light. First stop: the Trail of the Cedars.
Another month, another bike ride. While we wish we could have gone out for a hike, just about everything nearby was still closed. So we packed up the bikes and headed towards Estacada, OR, which isn’t too far from home, and is a BEAUTIFUL drive.
We couldn’t have asked for a prettier day to bike along the Cazadero Trail (aka the Old Clackamas Highway)–video below!
Yes, we went in April. And also, in this instance “row” rhymes with “cow” (#importantthings). The trail is technically BLM land that’s still open and there’s plenty of room for social distancing. I think the only real “rule” that we broke was actually leaving our house. *big breaths* Sometimes you just need a little fresh air and we’ve never been so grateful for it!
That picture above, that’s Dorena Lake. I’ve never seen a reservoir so quiet and so peaceful. We even got a little drone footage in the video below!!
I feel like I should start this post with an apology. By the time this is published, it’s likely that most of us will be completely relegated to our homes, with seemingly no end in sight. And yet here I am, taunting you with an outdoor adventure.
Full disclosure: we went on this hike prior to the full “Stay Home” policy of Oregon, so please keep that in mind as we bring a little nature to you! While the policy does still allow for hiking, it appears that hiking is the reprieve for MANY, and it’s not possible to keep six feet apart from other hikers on many of the trails. Be smart, stay safe.
The early stages of the COVID-19 “spread” had just started when we made our way to the river. Ben had been working from home most of the week, and I had been at a client site. We needed a little outdoorsy time, away from the house.
Lucky for us, it was a GORGEOUS day! Check out the video below!
I think the theme of our March hike was SPRING! We headed out on March 1st, and yet so many plants and trees were flowering, including the Japanese Cherry Blossoms! For those keeping track at home, spring doesn’t officially kick off until March 19th.
